The Supply Chain sector, a fast-paced and pragmatic world

The common thread throughout my journey was environmental and social impact. I have worked in CSR teams, a Foundation, and in Consulting and Audit in sustainable performance and transformation.

I actually arrived in the Supply Chain sector, following one of my former managers, to meet the many sustainability challenges in the sector. Before that, however, I had worked on the environmental impact of the Supply Chain for some of my Consulting clients. This experience allows me today to understand their expectations and to push innovative and impactful solutions to meet their needs.

“I specifically arrived in the Supply Chain sector […] to meet the many sustainability challenges.”

Having family in the heavyweight world, I had a a priori rather neutral, or even positive, on the sector. “A sector like any other” one could say. Today I understand certain particularities of the sector: the pace, the management of the unexpected, the culture of pragmatism. You can't see the time go by!

However, what still often saddens me is the reaction of people who learn that I work in Supply Chain. Already, the term “supply chain” itself is little understood outside the sector. Fun fact: when I had the opportunity to speak and testify for the “Words of Women in Supply Chain” initiative, an initiative of France Supply Chain, the majority of feedback was in summary “It was great your video, but what is Supply Chain?

"You can't see the time go by!"

And finally, those who imagine “logistics”, “trucks”, without really knowing the sector, generally roll their eyes and say “wow, it must not be easy”. Faced with these remarks, I think that a fairly dated image of the sector still sticks to us, and that's a shame, because it prevents a whole lot of talent from turning to it. The sector, and the richness of its professions, would benefit from being better known. The Supply Chain sector can offer women great opportunities for responsibility and advancement. It's a pragmatic sector as I said: talented women who prove themselves will find all the opportunities they deserve.

“The Supply Chain sector can offer women great opportunities for responsibility and development”

My big discoveries in the sector? I would simply say that the Supply Chain sector is much more dynamic and innovative than the image that the majority of people have of it.

“The image of a masculine Supply Chain? In my opinion, these are above all myths and images to be deconstructed.”

In my opinion, the sector does not seem so masculine to me, much less so than certain sectors in which I have been able to evolve, such as energy, engineering, etc. Of course there remain major challenges to overcome, as in the world of work in general, in order to gain diversity. Because this diversity is rich in opportunities for transformation, innovation, and talent!

The image of a masculine Supply Chain? In my opinion, these are above all myths and images to be deconstructed.

I would like to highlight the approach “Words from women in Supply Chain”. This project of “testimonial” type video capsules highlights the richness of the different Supply Chain professions and demonstrates that they are accessible to all women. We intend to perpetuate this approach by building a real female Supply Chain community.
