Can clean, ethical and responsible solutions be as economical as they are ecological?
While many of them require additional investments, it seems that last mile logistics is seeing a green solution emerge… and reduce its costs.
We will begin by taking stock of the urban challenge in 2019. We will then deal with cyclo-logistics and present K-Ryole: the first intelligent bicycle trailer awarded by the Paris City Hall. His challenge? Divide by 10 the financial, time-consuming, practical and environmental impact of urban logistics for light commercial vehicles.
The urban logistics sector is exploding
Every day, 200,000 deliveries to individuals are made in Paris. This is also 2 hours of estimated average time loss in traffic jams. Finally, there is an abundance of light utility vehicles which circulate empty or almost empty; cluttering the roads and saturating the city.
Companies are therefore looking for economical and intelligent solutions. What are their means?
First, rethink the organization. One solution can, for example, be optimizing routes via a delivery schedule strategy. This can also involve the restructuring of “ its spatial organization, by creating a network of delivery points close to the final recipients » (2).
Secondly, companies are turning to new means of transport. We are thinking here of alternative energies or even soft mobility. In the growing problem of the last mile, where the utility vehicle was the means of transport of choice, it is becoming more and more of a handicap.
Cyclo-logistics: green, economical and practical
In response to these companies, cycle logistics is essential. Indeed, cargo bikes, three-wheelers, two-wheelers, classic and even motorized trailers are today recognized as more economical solutions when purchasing and especially when using (price of fuel, insurance, maintenance, etc.). ). Additionally, they make it possible to optimize circuits and therefore make human time profitable, a major component of the cost of the last mile. Cycling, in all its forms, therefore seems to be a green and legitimate solution.
" New logistics models will exploit what is already circulating unnecessarily empty, analyzes François-Michel Lambert. Just as carpooling has improved road productivity, shared logistics will make everything that moves in the city useful. » (3).
The last mile represents almost 20 % of the total cost of the freight transport value chain. This considerable financial loss – condensed into these few meters – offers great potential for optimization. Both for physical stores and for online sales professionals, the bicycle will make it possible to reduce these unnecessary costs, find transversal solutions and say goodbye to square meters of unused utilities.
Except that a common thought comes to mind: “ the bike has plenty of advantages, of course, but how am I going to tow my 3 meter, 250 kilo package? » ?
Zoom on the K-Ryole
A bicycle will be enough if the package can be transported in a bag. When the idea of transporting bulky and heavy loads comes, we need to open our eyes to other solutions.
Are you thinking about the scooter? We think of K-Ryole
K-Ryole is therefore the solution which retains all the practicality of the bicycle by being closest to the utility vehicle in terms of load and useful volume.
All this while adding that the components, creation, design and assembly of K-Ryole are French! The workshop being based in Ivry sur Seine, this is the assurance of close after-sales service! The team is even committed to rethinking its models for specific requests (refrigerated models, dressing according to your visual identity, adaptation to original events such as Christmas tree collection, etc.).
K-Ryole now has clients of all sizes and from many sectors. The team has therefore deployed significant know-how, thanks to a “field” approach to vehicle design. There K-Ryole Pick-up is for example used by Bricorama to deliver packages of around one cubic meter to its customers. There K-Ryole Utility, closed and secured by RFID badge is used for the distribution of letters and parcels by Chronopost and The post office, for food deliveries by Biocoop or even Intermarché, but also for the collection of organic waste by the Tricyclerie. K-Ryole has also adapted its technology to create a handling wheelbarrow currently in use on construction sites. Bouygues Construction.
