It highlights a high level of connectivity. Today everything is connected, everything is Smart.

On the occasion of Digital SITL, SprintProject returns to the concept of Smart Supply during a dedicated webinar.

On June 26, 2020, Fabien Esnoult, President of SprintProject, gave the floor to our three speakers Rémy JEANNIN, President of Savoye, Patrick CASON, Managing Director of Sigfox and Yannick BUISSON, Managing Director of FM Logistic. These three experts returned to their vision of the Supply Chain of tomorrow through the impact of connected objects, the evolution of logistics models, mechanization and robotics.

Patrick Cason, Managing Director France, Sigfox

Digital transformation optimizes the management of now connected mobile assets. Mobile assets (pallets, containers, tanks, etc.) are essential equipment in the world of Supply Chain.

This equipment raises issues of real-time product localization, operational performance as well as economic issues. Most often this equipment is dispersed among partners and it is difficult for companies to locate and/or manage it. Connecting these assets would therefore make it possible to report information directly to the owner of the equipment, in real time, thanks to the collection of data, in order to have a global vision of this equipment.

Today, Supply Chain companies want to ensure the traceability of small packages in order to reduce congestion, integration complexity and the carbon footprint. The goal is to connect the contents of the packages and no longer the container.

What is interesting in the Internet of Things and Smart Supply is collecting data and being able to learn more about the past but also being able to predict the future in order to make decisions and anticipate risks. .

Yannick Buisson, Managing Director France and Western Europe, FM Logistic

According to Yannick Buisson, three issues must be taken into account in terms of Smart Supply: digital, the environment and urban.

In recent months, we have all switched to digital formats and this trend will continue to grow. The essence of digital is to bring us closer to real time in order to connect worlds that are today disconnected. This will be possible in particular thanks to various connected objects whose use would make processes more fluid and optimize flows, thereby saving time and limiting delays.

Furthermore, reducing the impact of Supply Chain activities on the environment is also a factor to take into consideration for the Supply of tomorrow. Energies are the key to reducing this impact. Furthermore, the management of these energies involves existing technologies in order to be able to transform and transport them.

Finally, consumption from physical to digital will raise various issues at the urban level. First of all, the notion of delivery time must be taken into account because if until now it was expressed in days, now the urban consumer expects a delivery promise estimated in hours. This notion of time will raise a space issue because warehouses in urban areas cannot be as extensive as outside of cities. Complexity is also a factor to consider in urban logistics. Indeed, distribution channels are multiplying and diversifying more and more with ever more regulatory constraints: access, parking, time slots, etc. Thanks to technologies that provide real-time information, we will be able to understand these constraints. and to optimize our organization in order to be efficient.

Rémy Jeannin, President, Savoye

How are the main players in the world of distribution adapting and seeing the Supply Chain of the future?

Today, consumption patterns are changing and consumers are becoming more and more demanding. Volatility and immediacy are the terms that best reflect consumer demands. They want everything, anytime and anywhere and are ultra-informed because they are hyper-connected.

It is the consumer who ultimately guides the future of the supply chain towards ever greater agility: omnichannel, real-time visibility of stocks, immediate availability, preparation without delay, track&trace, local collection and delivery, etc.

Large-scale distribution then begins to ask questions about the usefulness of stores. For some players, stores are points of arrival but they also become, little by little, a new point of departure thanks to the fact of being able to withdraw goods or buy products from the stock of another store. This new trend requires optimization of stocks, production and transport, that is to say it requires having a perfect network in urban areas.

We are therefore moving towards a logic of global optimization of the supply chain integrating logistics platforms, regional warehouses and points of sale, including the notions of delivery times and transport. Today we are talking about Delivery and Supply chain trends.

In summary, the supply chain must therefore interconnect with a global ecosystem which is much more customer-oriented; the supply chain must be driven by the consumer to become Smart.

Conclusion

Today, the Supply Chain is chasing digital. In the future, it will become Smart and will be driven by the development of connectivity in urban areas. The Supply Chain will therefore not be able to avoid this technological change.

It is the consumer who will guide the Supply Chain towards Smart Supply thanks to the numerous technologies that are developing day by day.

Smart Supply will be a Data Supply because it is thanks to data that we will be able to get closer to real time and that we will become more and more efficient.

Do you want to follow all the news and trends in innovation in the Supply Chain?

View our Blog

Subscribe to our monthly newsletter

Would you like to be informed of our next Webinars? follow us on Linkedin and Twitter !

Read all the “Expert Opinion” articles on the SprintProject blog

Over time, Supply Chain has replaced the common term “Logistics”, which has military origins.
